Hi everyone. I was walking around Maplewood Park this morning from 8:30 - 11:00am. Sighted the following:
Blue Jays x 2
Cedar Waxwings x 40
Chickadees x 5
Cooper's Hawks x 3 - male left food at South edge of woods, female retrieved it and returned to nest to feed baby. She spent more time today feeding and moving around in the nest a bit so possibly a second baby? :)
Downy Woodpecker x 1 (female)
Goldfinches x 4 (2m, 2f)
House Finches x 3 (1m, 2f)
House Sparrows - lots
Sharp-shinned Hawk (imm.) - flew into woods then perched on tree branch at SW corner of woods. Lucky for him the male Cooper's Hawk wasn't around or there would have been a major shrieking, chasing and possible fight.
Robins - a few, including one female sitting on nest.
Lots of Red Admiral butterflies and Trillium flowers (mainly white but a few pink/purple ones as well).
Maplewood Park: East side of Glen Erin Dr., just North of Aquitaine Ave.
