I spotted a common nighthawk flying over Yonge and St. Clair (midtown Toronto) this morning around 9 am.

I have just joined this site - both to help identify and discuss the birds I have been seeing every evening in the Yonge & St Clair neighborhood. I read your post yesterday and research the Common Nighthawk. I believe from the information I have found that there are at least a pair of common nighthawks who are residing in the area. They have a very distinctive call and I have often seen them swooping at two or three gulls.

As a matter of fact I can hear the distinctive call out my window at this very minute! Has anyone else heard/seen this bird?
-
I live in the high park area and hear them every night in the summer.
-
They are always downtown too around king and Bathurst. We hear them so often our students think they are some kind of car alarm!

Live in the Yonge & St.Clair area and enjoy seeing and hearing the nighthawk every day. To me, a quintessential sound of summer. Often swoops at gulls as mentioned. Have also heard the one down at King and Bathurst - even above all the traffic and entertainment noise.
