Title: Darlington PP - May 5 - White-winged Crossbill
Post by: thouc on May 05, 2012, 04:40:50 PM
A great surprise today at Darlington Provincial Park - a White-winged Crossbill, my first for Ontario. When I was about to leave I spotted a red bird with hooked bill and white wing bars, definitely a White-winged Crossbill. I certainly didn't expect one at this time of the year, after missing them the whole winter season! Other birds of interest were Chestnut-sided, Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Willow Flycatcher, Eastern Towhee, Swamp, Song, White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows, Spotted Sandpiper and Common Tern. Almost all of the interseting passerines were in a row of bushes and trees near the washrooms at the beach parking.
