Post by: adonbirder on May 13, 2012, 07:11:01 PM
Went for a hike locally and saw some good birds today, on West street south of Lakeshore road this morning had a Cerulean, Black-throated Blue and Black-throated Green warbler all singing in the same tree, made for great comparisons. Then walked into Shell park and was pretty slow, only had Northern Waterthrush between the 2 bridges along the creek and behind the garden plots had Ovenbird, Gray cheeked thrush and Scarlet Tanager so tried along the creek to the west of Great Lakes blvd, there just past where the old foot bridge used to be found 2 Olive-sided flycatchers, also was very birdy here where there is a bend in the creek, 2 Blackpolls, Wilson's, Tennessee, Blackburnian, Magnolia, Northern Parula, Common Yellowthoat and other common warblers. Also Blue-headed, Red-eyed and Warbling vireos, Veery, Swainson's and Gray cheeked Thrush, Rose-breasted grosbeaks and indigo buntings. Other flycatchers were Eastern wood-peewee and Least flycatchers. Ended with 21 species of warblers.
Stopped by Bronte Harbour on way back and at 3:45pm at corner of Ontario and Nelson there were 2 Fish crows, also saw many Cliff swallows and Chimney swifts at the Harbour and lastly the Red-necked grebe pair has 1 egg on their tire nest.
