Title: Poisoned Raccoons at Col Sam Smith
Post by: Rob'in'To on May 20, 2012, 11:51:41 AM
A morning walk today at Col Sam Smith had us discover 3 young Raccoons dead, most likely poisoned.  The disturbing part was one found hanging in some Dogwood while the other two were nearly side by side just off the main path heading south.

What is wrong with people?

I called Animal Control since I didn't know what else to do.  They were going to come get them.  And I had the awful ordeal of pulling the one out of the dense shrub.

I moved them all to a spot out of most public view and easy for the city to find.

Sorry, just venting.  And if one of you is down there today and happen to find the little pile of horror, you will have a better understanding of what happened.

Guy on phone says this stuff happens far too often.

May not have been poison -- I think there is an epidemic of canine distemper running through at least Southern and mid-Ontario....

I never heard of such a thing.  Hmmmmm.

It was disturbing.  And Toronto Animal Control said they've had a number poisonings as they do every Spring.

And how they were when found.  Just all seemed to fit.

I found a dead raccoon on our property not too long ago -- had diarrhea discharge...and it looked like a miserable death.

Apparently they show symptoms similar to rabies -- aggressive raccoons out in daylight...don't flee when they see humans (although they don't in the city as the norm).
