Title: Maplewood Park - Coopers hawks
Post by: ostrich on May 27, 2012, 12:49:23 PM
I dropped by Maplewood Park early yesterday evening and took a look at the nest,  but I couldn't make out any adults in the nest from where I was - there are a couple of spots where you can get a decent look,  but only from one side.  With my local nest it's often really hard to see any adult from the ground when they're flat down.  I also dropped by briefly last week and also couldn't see any adults visible on nest from ground level - but I did hear adult calls from the trees further down.  I was unable to find either adult and they seemed to keep shifting position from the calls,  but I'm pretty sure I heard two separate adults.

So I'm not sure of the status of the nest - they ought to have hatched eggs or be very close by now if the nest is still active.

I have been watching this nest closley for the last 2 weeks as well, but I too have seen no evidence of life there.  They seem to have disappeared?  Too bad if true.

I also have not seen Jo-Anne lately ( Bird Brain ) either in the parks or on the board?

Female hawk hasn't been on nest since 2 weeks ago.  I see the adult male and female hawks flying all through middle woods daily, shrieking up a storm, mating, etc.

Bob - I'm out for walks daily but all different times of day.  Not online much lately due to nice weather.
