Title: Red-necked Grebes at Sam Smith
Post by: KPaw on June 08, 2012, 10:15:40 AM
Hi, does anyone know if the Red-necked Grebe couple's eggs have hatched as yet?    Seemed like this week was the week...

Still no sign of hatching. I saw two pairs with birds on nest in the marina and one nest-building pair in the bay just west of the marina.

Thomas, thanks for the update...I got some excellent photos about two weeks ago and I thought sure a hatching was imminent...I'll keep watching this topic - many thanks once again!

I was there for a short walk today and checked one of the Grebe nests in the marina. There were still a bird on the nest, and the other bird came with some building material. Maybe the have started over?

Thanks again, seems odd as the hatching would have taken place by now... but, as you say, why would the pair continue to nest-build as you suggest they are doing?   Given the lateness of the season..it's odd.   I don't get there too often so please keep me posted.
