Title: Etobicokek Creek Sunday Morning
Post by: Irene on July 08, 2012, 12:31:19 PM
I was up and restless so headed over to the Etobicoke Creek/Marie Curtis this morning, there was 2 Black Crowned Night Herons, one adult and a juvenile, a Great Egret much to my surprise, and a ton of Cliff Swallows building nests under the Lakeshore Bridge
I also ran into a cotton-tail rabbit. Not bad for a quick run in the park.

Curious, where (what part of the creek) did you see the Great Egret?

He was just south of the CN Bridge.

Sorry to hear you didn't see anything, there are kingfisher's always flying up and down the creek, I was there early in the morning and found an adult BCN Heron and the Ring-Necked Duck
I also saw a sandpiper? but could not get a good shot of him

So the ring-necked duck is still there.  It has been there since the winter.  All by itself.  We assumed it couldn't fly north.  Glad it's doing OK.

Thanks, I will try to make it out there in the next few days and have a look.  The Great Egret (3 of them) used to frequent the south Pond at High Park on a fairly regular basis.  The water there is currently awful and I have not seen them in weeks.  Very disappointing as they are a beautiful bird.
