Title: flycatcher?
Post by: christie on July 02, 2007, 03:08:11 PM
While walking along the Humber River I saw a flycatcher with a yellow front. I'm sorry I don't have more than that, it flew away pretty quickly. Any ideas?

How big was it?

Could be a yellow-bellied? or a great crested?

I'd say it was a larger flycatcher, bigger than a pee wee. I'm leaning towards great crested but not 100% sure

Joe, if they're nesting in your back yard, anything particular about the nest box they're  using or are they in a tree cavity. I've been trying to attract them for a couple of years after I saw one checking out my martin house.

Title: Great Crested Flycatcher Nest Box

Nothing special about the box... maybe 10 x 10 or so.  One showed up maybe 7 years ago after I built that box with some scrap wood, and put it up on the pole 12 feet off the ground.  Didn't see it again until this spring.  There's a pair in there now.
Hope this helps.
