Title: Long-tailed Duck at Humber Bay East
Post by: Stephanie on July 13, 2012, 12:19:05 PM
If anyone is interested, I observed a male long-tailed duck in summer plumage at Humber Bay East yesterday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. He was seen bathing and feeding in the bay east of the storm water management area.

Also, the resident pair of Red-necked Grebes attempted to mate yesterday and were busy adding to their nest. A lady at the park said she was pretty sure she saw a chick earlier in the day, but there was no sign of one during the 2 hours I spent watching the pair. Does anyone have more information on this?

If the grebes manage to hatch a chick, I think it will be a first for Toronto.  There have been lots of nest attempts and eggs in the last few years, but no documented success that I know of.  It's worth keeping an eye on!
