Great news, especially considering the disheartening failed attempts at Humber Bay Park...

That's awesome!

I hope certain people give them some space while they raise the chicks.  I watched a couple guys a little while back down there trying to get as close as they could to the one platform in the marina for photos.  The Grebes would leave the platform.  Guy(s) would walk away.  Grebes would return.  And the guy(s) would take another shot at it.  Same plan.  Same results.  And even after a couple times, they still tried again.  Give the birds a break, especially at nesting time.  This was when they were trying to build a nest on the platform.

Sorry to put a negative spin on such great news.

Thanks for this though.

I was there this morning and they are there. There are two chicks if you look closely.

I'm glad you mentioned it, Rob. Bird photographers bothering the subjects they supposedly love...one of humanity's many mysteries, to be sure...

Thank you Rob.

Jack, unfortunately there are bad apples with any group. As a photographer, of course I want to get the shot but for me the bird's welfare is more important. I will not knowingly place a bird in stress or jeopardy to get the shot.

I first saw a chick on the 10th in the evening.  I returned the following morning for another look.  The adults seemed nervous about my presence even though I was back on the walkway.  So, even though I was itching to spread the news, I kept quiet about them.  This morning, even with people crowding along the wall, they appear totally unconcerned.

Fortunately (for the grebes) the nest is just a bit too far away to get really good photos without some really serious optics.
