A couple of Common Nighthawks joined the Chimney Swifts briefly tonight. My first for the year.
The Chimney Swifts has been gone during the day for the last few weeks, just coming back near dusk to roost. I guess that they venture further during the day when the young have fledged.

I saw 8-10 nighthawks put on an amazing display yesterday over the north east corner of High Park, about 7 pm. There were also at least 50 chimney swifts. I followed a path heading east from the tennis courts, past some bizarre sculpture. The birds were over an open slope.

There has been a Common Nighthawk living at Christie and Bloor all summer long, Chimney swifts are pretty common in that neighbourhood too.

September 6 - I saw (my first) Common Nighthawk near St.Clair and Oakwood darting in and out of a tree at dusk.
