Title: Willets and Warblers-Sam Smith Park
Post by: Molebird on August 28, 2012, 08:52:28 PM
Interesting mix of birds today, probably brought in by last night's storm. 36 birds in total with the highlights being the biggest selection of warblers we have seen since May and 4 beautiful Willets hanging out together near the apartment building with a Killdeer and Spotted Sandpiper in the vicinity. The warblers included: Blackburnian, Black & White, Yellow-rumped, Magnolia, Pine, American Redstart, Yellow Warbler and some we couldn't quite ID (Don't you just hate the heavy leaf cover at this time of year!). We also saw a Merlin hanging around the point while we were watching a Mink at play and Green and Black-crowned Night Herons in the upper pond.
A surprising day to say the least.

So glad to see your list of warblers, as I, too, saw a little flock of warblers today, in my heavily-treed backyard near Avenue Rd and Wilson. I thought maybe Blackburnian and Pine and Magnolia, so it was encouraging to see them on your list.
