So today, a friend and I were discussing how we just missed a green heron at Sam Smith and then we heard crazy splashing in the water, we thought our lovely parental Red-necked Grebe had a big fish..well..not so...
apparently the Pied-bill Grebe got a little too close to the babies (who are much older now and out further into the pond)...The Red-neck grebe grabbed our little pied-bill buddy by the neck and was just thrashing him around under the water...

oh, in the end the Pied-bill was a little shaken but ok...
Remind me never to piss off any bird!!!

Thanks for those pics Irene. Great shots. Glad to hear the parents are on guard - the little ones are exposed to so much danger from above (Red tail hawk), below (Mink), and on water (Pied billed grebe). Can't wait for the "youths" to grow up.
