Title: Brown Creeper and more at Maplewood Park
Post by: Bird Brain on September 27, 2012, 11:13:06 AM
Hi everyone.  I was wandering around Maplewood Park this morning between about 7:20-8:20am.  Sighted the following:

Black-capped Chickadees x 2
Blue Jays x 2
Brown Creeper x 1
Cardinals x 2  (1 adult male with super cute juv.)
Juncos x 3
Red-breasted Nuthatches - dozens, can see and hear them "yammering and hammering" all through the park/woods

Red-tailed Hawk (imm. Eastern) x 1 - flying through the woods, screaming up a storm.  He/she flew right across the front of my face and tried to catch a Cottontail Rabbit on the trail - rabbit ran like a bat out of hell and hawk bounced off the rabbit!  Hawk then perched on nearby tree branch and continued screaming.  He/she is looking a bit ragged so I hope he/she is eating something - so far, this youngster is unable to catch squirrels or rabbits!
