Title: Peregrine falcon in flight
Post by: mr.sharp-photo on October 08, 2012, 05:53:07 PM
I had the pleasure of seeing two peregrine falcons today. I noticed something moving in the trees at a really fast speed. assumed it was a peregrine. i tracked it down and swore that i saw a 2nd bird land near it. I ended up finding its roost and watched and listened to it make this strange mew-like noise. it kept on mumbling/mewing. after 5 minutes, it took off. a minute later, i saw the second peregrine land further off. i made my way to get a clearer shot and, after 2 minutes, it took off in my general direction. i had my camera set for in-flight shots and got off 2 pretty good ones, considering the distance.

Lucky you Richard.
That second shot is awesome!!
To my untrained eye they kind of look like juvies..I am sure someone will correct me..
Also, doesn't appear to be any leg bands, again I could be wrong..can't see any though.
Which is rare nowadays.
Hope they stick around so they make my walk down there worthwhile.

i'd be tempted to say that the in-flight one was a juvie. the one perched was BIG. i wasn't sure if it was a peregrine due to its size.
