I have seen some remarkable photos here recently of Barred Owls. So, here's my contribution. Taken Saturday evening. The owl actually flew in for a closer look at me as if to say " got any mice?"

unfortunately, i think that you're likely correct when you say it was expecting a human to present it with food

I certainly hope you are wrong about that. It didn't stick around very long. I was fortunate to get the photos. It's been 10 years since I last saw a Barred Owl.

Great shots of the Barred Owl. Given all the reported sightings, there certainly do seem to be a lot of Barred Owls around Toronto these days. I read it may have something to do with food shortages in the north. My wife, Jean, and I also came upon a Barred Owl this past Sunday near Markham. Here's a video I shot of a Barred Owl on November 28. Sound asleep and swaying in the breeze.
