Title: Help needed with bird identification
Post by: kathyal on December 02, 2012, 08:54:05 PM
I spotted this bird in Haliburton, feeding from a small crabapple tree.  There were some other birds of this kind with greenish heads.  There were also a few cedar waxwings on the same tree, and a large number of black and white spotted birds that flew off before I could get a good look.
Thanks!
Kathy

Thanks!  I see that it's the female, and I did catch a glimpse of the reddish male, but couldn't be sure.  There were several females on the same tree.  They stayed there quite a while, and didn't seem to mind me getting up close to watch.

Lovely female Pine Grosbeak. You are so fortunate. They seldom make it down here to the Finger lakes.
