I spotted this bird in Haliburton, feeding from a small crabapple tree. There were some other birds of this kind with greenish heads. There were also a few cedar waxwings on the same tree, and a large number of black and white spotted birds that flew off before I could get a good look.

Pine Grosbeak - great bird!

Thanks! I see that it's the female, and I did catch a glimpse of the reddish male, but couldn't be sure. There were several females on the same tree. They stayed there quite a while, and didn't seem to mind me getting up close to watch.

Lovely female Pine Grosbeak. You are so fortunate. They seldom make it down here to the Finger lakes.
