Title: RTH/Cooper's (?) at Pape and Cosburn
Post by: mr.sharp-photo on December 18, 2012, 04:24:00 PM
I've noticed it more frequently over the past month. Think we have a new East York resident hawk. There's what looks like a RTH, but is possibly smaller (so thinking it is a Cooper's hawk) that's been feasting off of Pape Village's multiple pigeons. I can't ID it because I've only seen it while driving and it is usually grey outside.

I've seen it roost on the chimney of the apartment block at the northwest side of Cosburn and Pape.

Also of note was another raptor that was gliding over the Millwood St Bridge.  pretty certain these are not the pair or trio that hang out over Bayview Extension

Richard:
I've seen a Cooper's Hawk several times over the last few weeks hanging out between Dieppe Park and Donlands Ave. One afternoon it was roosting in a tree on Memorial Park a block east of Donlands, and I had quite a long and leisurely look at it. There's a colony of pigeons that congregate on the seniors' residence across the street from the Catholic school. Might be your bird, but on the other hand the Redtails do come into the neighborhood from the nearby ravines.
Cheers,
Ed

too far, methinks.
i've had a Cooper's hawk on my front step once (a few winters ago) and in my tree (2 months ago). they are around. but this one, methinks, is a frequent visitor.

also saw a RTH at Broadview and Bateer this afternoon.

A pair of ted tails nested on the transmission tower by that bridge last summer
