Title: RFI sandpiper but which one?
Post by: gb_eh on August 06, 2007, 09:13:19 PM
Need a hand with the id of these two sandpipers (two different shots of each). They were not together, shot on different days:

1st (suspect this is a chick):

Title: Semipalmated Sandpiper and Lesser Yellowlegs
Post by: thouc on August 09, 2007, 12:32:04 AM
The top one looks like a Semipalmated Sandpiper (in winter plumage) with the short, thick bill.
The bottom one I would say is a Lesser Yellowlegs. The bill doesn't look long enough for a Greater.
