Title: Coyote - Lakefront Promenade
Post by: rcflier on January 16, 2013, 06:42:27 PM
Spotted this guy ( or girl ) Jan 15th at Lakefront Promenade, actually beside the creek that empties into the lake at RK McMillan Park at the bottom of Hampton Road near Cawthra.

He looks very healthy, except for a distinct limp.

I know that area well....the creek is Cooksville creek....a few years ago a sign was posted at the foot of the spit, warning of coyotes in the area.

Being interested in urban wildlife....I googled coyote Mississauga and learned that an epidemic of mange pretty much wiped out fox and coyote populations in Mississauga. And now it looks like populations are coming back.

Yes indeed.  a friend of mine (new to birding) went for a walk at CVC ( Credit Valley Conservation) on Old Derry Road in Mississauga last Sunday ( wish I was there too,  but I went on Saturday !)

He and his wife spotted a Coyote on the trial beside the river north of the CVC buildings.

they also spotted a nice RTH which gave them a beatuiful display as it left it's perch, flew down near them to fetch a vole ( or some other rodent) then flew back up to the very same perch and proceeded to have a nice meal.  They were really excited about this display.

Lol...the abbreviations crack me up...here I was thinking it's awfully early for a ruby throated hummingbird to be about...and wondering why and how it snatched up a vole.

I was wondering if there have been any further sightings of coyotes in this area of the lakeshore.
