Title: Recent Pictures of Birds I took
Post by: Rotarran on January 17, 2013, 07:40:17 PM
Recently I took up the hobby of wildlife photography.  I purchased an ok camera (nothing amazing) to get me started and here's what I have so far as far as birds go:

Mockingbird - Jan 12

Good for you. There will be so much to see, you'll be amazed at what you find now that you are looking!

A most enriching pastime indeed! You will tend to meet other people who will sometimes ask you what you're looking at/for, and by sometimes talking with these people you can enrich their lives as well. Nothing is more important than a healthy connection with nature, particularly for the unlucky urbanites like me!

Nice series, you will no doubt get better at seeing and capturing your subjects. A friendly word of warning...mind your wallet because it could get expensive!  Also, someone once told me, limit your shots to three per subject or, you be sorting through hundreds of shots of the same bird. Good luck, take care.

Thank you all for your comments.

Took some more today.  These first two pics are around DVP & Eglinton

I thought that these common brown finches don't really get much love so I thought this picture at least made them look interesting:

I saw a woodpecker.  Took lots of pics, this one I thought was amongst the best:

Then I scooted over the downsview park and saw a Kestrel (maybe 2) and a what was likely a red tail hawk.  Also saw a mockingbird.  Did not see an owl.  I took many pics of the Kestrel but they're difficult to get a good picture of and the lighting wasn't ideal (late afternoon + the clouds).  Didn't get a good shot of the hawk but snapped a nice one of the mockingbird ...check out that awesome pose below.

Kestrel (love these cute little raptors):

So on my walk through Brookbanks park around the York Mills & DVP area I saw a female Downy Woodpecker.  Took one pic which didn't come out as good as I wanted...then she just disappeared.

Finally got a good shot of a Chickadee...they move around so much and so quickly it's impossible to get a perfect shot but I'm pleased with this one:

As I was focusing in on a bird feeder with my camera to get some good chickadee shots, I actually captured a Red Breasted Nuthatch..only found out later when I got home.  Everything happened so fast I just figured they were all Chickadees lol.  It was a pleasant surprise.
