Algonquin park
Black-backed woodpecker

I'm sorry to quibble but I don't think that a Black-backed Woodpecker would have such a pronounced white supraorbital line.

I appreciate your response and input gstuart, I am by no means an expert, I just went by what was in my bird book. The yellow on the head was what I went by. Here is another shot showing more of the yellow on the head. Please correct me if I am wrong:):)
Thanks again,
Art

Now that's a Black-backed. Is it really the same bird?
-
Yes, this is the same bird, the yellow isn't as evident on the first shot. I have a shot of the hairy and the black-backed about 4 feet apart looking at each other, but it isnt the greatest.
-
Those are most certainly not the same birds. This (http://art-mcleod.fotopic.net/p43982080.html) is a Hairy, and this (http://art-mcleod.fotopic.net/p44093880.html) is a Black-backed.
-
I also see different birds...
-
Thanks very much for pointing this out, cloaca, I really appreciate it. This is why I come to this site, to learn:):):)
At least I got the eagle, the bittern and the loon right,,,lol):):):)
-
Hey Art, that bittern shot is fantastic, I've never come close to even seeing one (let alone shooting one) sitting still out in the open like that... nice work.
