Title: Bluebirds taking shelter in storm
Post by: RKD on February 08, 2013, 09:56:35 AM
8 Blue Birds taking shelter under the eaves of the feeder. They have been hanging around all morning not particularly eating but trying to stay warm. Also seeing a huge flock of redpolls frantically feeding. It's nasty out there.

Very nice

Are they still around?

Mealworms according to "HH" is what you need for Bluebirds.

They have been coming everyday. And staying pretty much all day for the last week. I think they like my suet and I've gone out of my way to "serve" them. I've even gone looking for meal worms but at 17 cents each I had to draw the line. I hope they continue to come but I think it wont last.

lol I am sure they will leave me soon and spend the summer with you. It's been such a pleasure to see them everyday. I have been breaking up the suet to small mouth size pieces since they seemed to have trouble chopping up their own from the frozen bulk and maybe that's why they are staying around.

By the way we saw a group of turkeys in the field beside your place right next to the road. Stopped to take pictures as I happened to have my camera with me. They seemed very unshy. Are you feeding them?

With the Bluebirds.....it does seem to pretty much happen this way every year.....you have them in the winter when I don't see any.

As far as the Turkeys go.....I did see them near the road by the snow fence and saw someone pull over.....that was you?....too funny.

The next day I noticed the Turkey tracks all over my front lawn as well......it appears they were quite comfy as they made their way around.

I have not been feeding them at all as this was the first time they were actually around my house. They likely were driven out of the forest
because of the deep snow from last week.....they were concentrating on the bare areas around all my trees. I did buy some corn yesterday
and spread it around....of course they haven't been back since.....LOL

Lol yes I suppose that was probably us. Who else in Georgetown would stop to photograph turkeys? Hope they come back for you.
