Title: Sharp-shinned Hawk in North Toronto
Post by: greyowl51 on February 08, 2013, 04:27:29 PM
As the snow blows outside we once again had a Sharp-shinned Hawk in our Toronto backyard on the hunt.  Not much action however given the weather.

Where was this?  I've seen birds of prey around Steeles and Woodbine on several occasions though I was too far away to tell what they were.

I think this is a juv. Cooper's Hawk. Head looks pretty big and tail is rounded.

I agree. Not definite, but this looks more Coopers than Sharp-shinned to me.

Looks like a pretty definite Cooper's Hawk to me.  In addition to Thomas' reasoning, note how thick those legs are.
