Title: Pileated Woodpecker
Post by: Rotarran on February 11, 2013, 08:00:06 PM
Spotted and took pics of a Pileated Woodpecker at Wilcox Lake in Richmond Hill.  Pics are in photo thread.  Also spotted what I think was a Herring Gull out on the frozen lake, some Crows, Blue Jays, and a few Juncos.  Interesting area for birding.  I look forward to what it has in the spring and summer.

Yes a pretty good place  to wander around in but for the parking which is a bit further away from the beach area. Last winter the 2 carparks were not cleared after snow so it was almost impossible to park. We are not supposed to park at the beach area but lots of people do it anyway, mostly along the tiny circular access road.

How were parking conditions ?

Not great.  I parked at that Canoe place, which, considering the weather and all the snow on the ground, was unlikely to offend too many people.  But yeah come summer time, I know I'll have to find alternate arrangements.

Yes winter time that is usually the only place.

Will probably gander off there today if the wind dies down somewhat.
