Two firsts seen today .
1. A red squirrel inspected then entered our slope roofed box nest located on our backyard fence .
2. An Eastern Screech Owl perched on the fence for a short time next to the nest.
The nest has there for a few years and has been checked out often by sparrows but none have ever nested in it .
3. Also of interest . We hung a wooden block suet feeder ( 4x4x12") from an apple tree branch with the holes packed with raw suet and sunflower seed . Hairy woodpeckers visited . The block ( quite heavy) disappeared from the tree and could not be found anywhere in the backyard . Probably carried off by a racoon .
