Title: White-winged Crossbills/Lambton Woods
Post by: chudymoose on March 09, 2013, 05:03:10 PM
Walking around Lambton Woods (with my son Roland), we spotted 2 pairs of those birds just south of the parking lot.
Unfortunatelly the off leash dogs spooked them away.
Something has to be done with the dog problem in Lambton Woods !!

Is there anyway we can propose the park to ban off leash dog in the park? I saw some parks do that.

Off leash dogs are illegal in any park except in designated off leash areas. The rules are not enforced many deliberately break them.

i've done it before with another toronto park.
you call the city and report your concerns to the by-law officer. they, apparently, will then make your park part of their ticketing focus.
call 3-1-1 and ask them how to do this.

Just out of curiosity, what is the dog problem? Was the dog misbehaving or was it just causing the birds to fly away?

What is the problem with the dogs at Lambton Woods ???
There is no problems with the dogs. The problem is with their owners.
Lambton Woods is a special area, with a lot of bushes a lot of wetlands and a lot of wildlife using this area as their home.
People visiting that area, should respect it and not disturb the wildlife of it.
Dogs shouldn't run freely looking for adventure, and should be leashed all the time.
The nature of a dog is to answer the nature's call, whatever it can be in the given moment.
Dog - is a dog. And the dog owners should realize that all the time. They should control their dogs, keeping them close, on-the-leash!
They should also clean after them, and because there are many kids in the park - the dogs should also be muzzled.
There are areas in Toronto and outside the city where the wildlife present is much less significant then in Lambton Woods, and where park rules - let the dogs run free. Why do the dogs owners not take care about their dogs well being there ??
Solution to this problem:
There should be signs at the parking lot, at the trails entrances and along the trails remaining the dog owners to keep their dogs leashed.
That's my two cents about the problem.

Off leash dogs is a big problem in most Toronto parks.  I live right by Lambton and have cut back on the visits because of the dogs/people.

We were at Col Sam Smith this morning and so many off leash there too!  And they have a leash free zone.

So tempted to purchase some repellant for the rampant dogs who jump up at me and their owners.

How about a tranquilizer gun for the owner? OR let my Raging PMS at them!      :D
