at the birdbath today: at first sight, thought it was a goldfinch but it has a splash of red behind the eyes- about the same size as a goldfinch too, maybe a little bigger.....yellow head and belly, brownish wings....the red is really striking, though; help- my id book is at the cottage!

I was looking at Tanagers. All you need to do is click on the bird guide link near the top, second from the left and you can look up bird types in alphabetical order
or taxinomic order.. Napper

Or maybe Cape May - they've got that chestnut cheek patch.
