Their rookery's just north of that. saw one flying north at 7:45 PM last night. will check the rookery on Monday.
-
I had a moment to check and yep the great blue herons are back. guessing there are around a dozen at the rookery.
-
A couple of days ago I saw a GBH flying north at Elgin Mills just west of the 404 (over the Costco parking lot). Any idea where it might have been headed?
-
There's a pond at Elgin Mills & Woodbine Bypass (NW corner) where I often see GBH's and just a few hundred metres north of that is a wooded area with some nests on top which I believe the GBH's use.
-
I also saw a GBH on wednesday this week flying overhead while driving down woodbine around the 407. It was heading northwest.
-
I am hoping to photograph GBherons mating/nesting but thought they would be arriving much later.
Where exactly is the HWY 404 Major Mack rookery? I am coming from Aurora.
Thanks!

I think it's here:

This is right near Fletcher's Fields (just above the top of the map) - the home of Ontario Rugby. I drive by the ponds where the herons live every Saturday in the summer on my way to games. The ponds are not clearly visible but are just south of the forest that arrow points to, and are just west of Woodbine bypass, east of the 404.

Yeah man that's exactly the one I was referring to in my post above.
