This little fella has been around my house for about 6 weeks constantly at the feeders, sipping sap from the trees or foraging on the lawn and usually alone. It always looks like this - body feathers all fluffed up and ragged - tail and wing feathers all scraggly - and unable to fold it's wings back fully. I wonder if it's survived an attack by something. I'll be cheering for it to survive.

It looks like he is molting, I have a tree sparrow that keeps showing up on my balcony that looks very similar. He has been around for a couple of days and can fly as high as the 7th floor so he doesn't appear to be any worse for wear. Still haven't managed to get his picture, but I will keep trying.

Yes he does look like he is molting - but he has looked the same for 6 weeks. I'll be keeping an eye out for him as time progresses and perhaps post additional photos.
