Title: Good Friday at Leslie Spit 8-12

I skulked around the Spit from 8-12 this morning.  It was a glorious day, but not particularly bird-filled.  The wet woods were still pretty wet and very very quiet.  The rest of the Spit yielded a few species of interest, including:

Rusty Blackbird - in shrub trees between the docks and the main road
Northern Mockingbird - near the parking lot at the entrance
Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker - near the harbour-side beach just north of the sailing club
Song Sparrow - close to the Rusty
Double Crested Cormorant (only interesting because they were the first I've seen this Spring) - flying over the wet woods
Northern Harrier - soaring low close to the sailing club
Red-Tailed Hawk - soaring higher between the docks and the sailing club
Kestrel - diving by the satellite dishes near the roadside parking
Killdeer - several in flight and very noisy just beyond the first guard station on the main road
Blue-Winged Teal - near the docks
Red Head - in the pond near the turn-off to the sailing club  
Greater Scaup - near the docks
Lesser Scaup - near the docks

On the spit later in the day - 2-4:
lots of long-tailed ducks & bufflehead  
common goldeneye
red breasted mergansers
canvasbacks
black capped chickadees
2 trumpeter swans
american kestrel

I was there too - from 1:30-3pm. We saw the mockingbird putting on a song show by the road. It attracted a lot of watchers!

I was there from 2:30 - 6:30 but wasn't so fortunate.
Only saw
Numerous scaups but not sure if greater or lesser
Mute Swans (4)
Mallards
Black Capped Chickadee's
Red Wing Blackbirds
Long Tailed Ducks
Killdeer
Canvasbacks
Buffleheads
and my wife saw 2 Red Breasted Mergansers but I missed them.

Sad to know now that I missed a mockingbird show ;;

Lol, no, I did not have a tripod. Sounds like he had quite a crowd of paparazzi.
