Title: Safety Warning
Post by: David Shilman on September 24, 2007, 07:16:45 AM
This info came from another birding list, and is edited here.

Eight weeks ago, a friend was out birding. He rolled his car over.  The airbag deployed as it was supposed to, smashing
his binoculars into his chest. His sternum and several ribs were broken; a lung was punctured. The marks from his Swarovskis will mark his chest for a long time to come, though.

Sooo, probably not a good idea to wear your binoculars while driving.

Title: Binoculars while driving or a passenger

Sound advice Dave and I would suggest that anyone in any seat with an air bag in front of them remove their binoculars. I have had bypass surgery and I sure do not need to go in to remove binoculars from the same chest cavity and maybe post mortem. After all the binoculars are expensive
