How often do you guys see Female RWBB? I never see them at feeders. Are they shy? Do they simply not leave their nesting area?

Thanks for looking!

Nice pics, especially the wood ducks, looks like Oakbank pond again?
The RWBB may not eat seeds, but rather prefer something a bit more meaty...

They also seem to keep pretty close to their nesting sites in the rushes.
Maybe I'll see you around there some time...

Hey Mike,
Yep. Back at the pond again. I'm very close so I decided to make it a regular stop.
I was there today and there was some excitement! There were some people from the govt. tagging geese. Let me tell you something geese don't like... tagging!
Saw a night heron. The grebe is still there. I also saw the kingfisher again.
Hope to see you there.

Great shots!
No issues over in my yard with Red-winged females coming around to my feeders. Males dominate but the females do visit. Last week with winter's last throw at us, I had over 2 dozen male RWBBs cleaning out my feeders and squawking up a storm out back. It was awesome!

I find the females of a lot of bird species to be fascinating. Their colours are subtle but in the right light they really look great.
Female cardinals are really cool but on the skittish side so all my shots there involve twigs, bushes or posts. ;)

I saw a night heron there quite often last year. Also a Great Blue Heron visits the pond time to time.
BTW, I saw a tagged goose at this pond today, was very surpised

I was there on the day the tagged her. It was pretty intense. She was upset. The male was freaking out. Dive bombing the guy doing the tagging.
She seems to be doing fine now despite the tag though.
