Title: RFI - Snake ID from Carden in the summer
Post by: Kin Lau on October 01, 2007, 08:33:42 PM
I'm going over some photos and trips from this year, and would like a ID on this snake. I found 2 of them in the Sedge Marsh in Carden.

2 pictures. I would estimate that it was about 1m in length.

I would have guessed Black Rat Snake.  But that would be far from its current (if not historical) range.

Looks like a dark phase Northern Water Snake.  You can just make out the pattern on the back, and judging from the location (southern Ontario and in a marsh) this is likely your species.

I agree. Very typical-looking water snake.
