Title: May 19-Col. Sam Smith Park
Post by: Irene on May 19, 2013, 12:59:27 PM
Its warbler season..migration, I am excited to see what new warblers I can find this year..so I am up early with the birds this morning and not to miss anything I rush to get myself dressed and out of the house!
7:05 am, entering Sam Smith Park, yikes Timmies is closed- no coffee! Enter the bowl- The most beautiful bowl..that hosts hundreds? of warblers each spring migration...I'm ready...I hear birds tweeting, chirping, chatting, whistling, peeping..none were warbling. I ran across some wonderful gentlemen that helped with some of the birds, we saw a chestnut sided warbler (picture extremely blurry!) Vireos! yay, a Great Crested Flycatcher- confirmed by showing blurry picture to experience birder. So my excitment for warblers is waning :( I set out to check out the apple trees, which are beautifully blooming..well here is the rest of my morning:

Hummingbird:

Male Baltimore Oriole:

I will have to try another day for the warblers, but I think I got a nice reward in lieu of not getting them. Especially the hummer, after last summer I thought I would never get one!!
Oh, I also am having my first cup of coffee while I am posting this...finally :)

Happy Warbling!
Irene

Thanks, actually he wasn't, he would feed then land on the tree to rest, the problem I had was with lighting and I also didn't have a tripod with me. Either way I am happy with it. I spent endless hours last summer trying to get a shot and the hummer just teased me every time and he would fly in real close to me I could almost hear him laughing, I eventually gave up.

Wow, great shots, Irene!  I personally officially have given up on the Hummingbirds so I really envy you!  Congrats on that one!
