Title: Tons of shorebirds at Milne Dam Conservation Park
Post by: Rotarran on May 20, 2013, 10:08:29 PM
Was there briefly on Sunday and there were hundreds of Least Sandpipers, dozens of Yellow-legs & Palmated Plovers, as well as a couple of Solitaries and Dunlins.  It's such a large area to cover that I wasn't able to see everything in the short time I was there, but I will return soon at a better time.

Which part of Milne park is the best spot for the shore birds?

Just south of the parking lot.  There is a sandy beach type area.  I think the conditions are ideal right now because the water levels are quite low.  That might change with some rain.  Still it is worth exploring the whole park.  I also saw vireos, orioles, kingbirds and catbirds.

Thank you. I'll try my luck coming weekend, hope they are still around.

I was there today and because of recent rainfall (even before today), the river's water level was quite a bit higher.  As a result most of the shorebirds have left.  But a few Least Sandpipers and Spotted Sandpipers have remained.

I did see a Cooper's Hawk, a Great Blue Heron, Gnatcatchers, an Oriole, a Muskrat and heard Leopard Frogs.  So overall it's still a fun place.
