hi everyone,
just like Rickeckley who, unbeknown to me, I probably met as I wandered around the wet woods looking at a dazzling array of warblers, I had a marvellous morning on the spit ably assisted by the score or so local birders who pointed out birds for me, advised me on identification issues and gave me tips for the future.
I'm afraid I don't know any names but a huge thank you to you all and especially the little group that included a lady called Cathlin (?) who were so generous with their time and advice.
I'd also like to thank Rotarren, Lovemypt, Thouc, and trillian Flummox for answering my call for advice about Leslie access and directions for Sam Smith. That was very kind and especially the advice about suitable footwear. The wet woods lived up to their name,
As for birds... Rickeckley has already posted a list. I didn't see all he saw (His two vireos, hermit thrush and morning, blackburnian and Bay-breasted for instance) but I did see (in conjuction with various other observers)
Several willow/alder type Empids
Red-eyed vireo
Blue-headed vireo
Grey-cheeked Thrush as reported on Rickeckley's post)
Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher
Purple Martin
savannah Sparrow
A flyover cuckoo I didn't see well enough to ID
Northern Waterthrush
I'm back in the city next weekend (2nd June) so if anything else turns up please glue it to a branch until i get there.

HI Graham,
I really liked your post. I feel the same appreciation you expressed for all the help I've had the past 3 years learning to bird. I couldn't have had all the wonderful days I've had this Spring - knowing the great birds and the great people - if I hadn't experienced the same generous spirit of the Toronto birders that you did. It's why I hang out and post on this forum, to feel part of that community. I hope I see you soon in some of the local birding haunts I love.
