Title: A romantic, if faraway, look at an Indigo Bunting
Post by: jackbreakfast on May 28, 2013, 12:25:35 PM
I hadn't seen this bird before; what a fellow! To give you an indication of its distance from y.t. (and do know that this was as close as it got over my two-hour waiting period) the picture was taken at 400mm, and 40% has been cropped away from the right side. Mostly, for me, the camera-and-lens functioned as VERY heavy binoculars...

Is it me....or does this bird look incredibly small in comparison to the tree branch? Great shot and find!

Hi Gary, the bird IS quite small as compared to the tree branch, and the effect is exaggerated because of the distance and shooting angle. A neat trick of optics is one way of looking at it.

And many thanks, truly, for the tip RE Riverwood. I've never been, and don't have a car, but I'll get my ass over there somehow! What a bird, and to see so many? Yipes almighty!
