I'm heading to Windsor next week on my annual Caesers Windsor Casino jaunt and one of the places on our tour schedule is the Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary in Kingsville. I checked the reviews and their website but useful info is scarce; has anyone been there, what should I look for, etc. Thanks!

I used to visit Jack Miner's every Autumn as a kid (my Grandparents lived in Kingsville). The highlight was watching literally thousands of Canada Geese lift off the fields as a tractor "encouraged" them to start their migration. My last visit was with my own kids about 8 years ago. At that time the facility was really showing its age. There were a number of captive birds in various enclosures and a small duck pond. Also a small museum featuring some local history and the Jack Miner story. Most of the ducks on the pond seemed like residents but it's possible that it may attract a few wild birds too. Sounds like they are currently working on developing a wetland habitat in one of the old fields but no indication of how long that will take. The surrounding fields and a small adjacent Wood might have potential for some decent birding - hopefully someone who's been there more recently will know better.
Have a great trip!

Thanks Kris - part of the visit includes a tour of the old homestead but I think I'll skip that. Hopefully I'll see some butterflies that don't usually get this far north? I just hope the weather cooperates!

Hey Howie,
If it was me I would check out Ojibway Nature Centre instead.
Here is a link to the list of Butterflies and Moths that can be found there:

Seems like your kind of place.
It's an amazing spot to explore..if you can tear yoursef away from the Casino long enough :D

Unfortunately I gotta stay with the tour but I'll suggest it for next year - no problem getting away from the casino (Since I know exactly how slots work I also know that it's almost impossible to win and because table games aren't my forte we won't spend much time inside - good buffet tho!).
So what's happening with your hummers? Not too busy here but I do have at least two regulars (one male and one female) visiting throughout the day. Still no good flowers at TBG so no hummers there yet but I expect things to pick up in early July.
