Title: Churchill and northern Manitoba
Post by: feathered on August 13, 2013, 05:37:53 PM: I spent this summer doing remote bird surveying in northern Manitoba and had the opportunity to spend a few days in Churchill. Late July is not the time of year that most birders go to Churchill, as the birds are no longer singing and some have already departed the breeding grounds, but most of the local breeders can still be found with a bit of hard work, and it's a great time to see them with young (especially waterfowl and shorebirds). Polar bears are also fairly regular by this time, and we were able to spot two. I could not recommend it more!

At that time there were a mating pair of Ross's gulls south of town, very rare bird at that time, not sure whatever happened to them. At that time I was more interested in the bears and Beluga Whales. Would love the opportunity to go back.
