Driving south on Scarlett Road, I happened to notice a large number of birds flying over the Humber River which is just south of Edenridge. I pulled the truck into a parking area at the end of the bridge and went for a better look. I knew they were Chimney Swifts but was thrilled at the number which I estimate between 75 to 100 birds. It was great to watch them seemingly at eye level down the river and really not that high over my head. It was pointless to try for photos but I did anyways with the bright half moon... the only thing I did was slow down traffic as people wondered what I was photographing. Now if I could only figure out their roost in the area.
Through the summer months we enjoy the sights and sounds of Chimney Swifts flying over our backyard and more frequently some evenings than others with maybe 2 dozen on a good night. So this was really special to see and so close to home.
