The other day while sitting in the backyard I saw a male and a female cardinal at the backyard cherry tree, came to feed on black oil sunflower seed in the feeder. Immediately a cowbird juvenile showed up and started flapping its wings - a sure sign of begging for foods. Cardinals obliged of course, taking their turns. That reminded me a photo I took last year about the same time. At that time I didn't know the interplay of a parasitic cowbird and cardinals. I thought that it was just an unusual friendship between two different species of birds. Nature works mysterious way.
