Hi everyone.
I called in to Toronto for the day from the UK on one of my flying (literally -I work for an airline) visits on 2nd Sept and woke to see the islands looking misty so i figured it would be worth a migrant hunt especially if I could be beat the Labour Day crowds to the ferry. I was at Central around 8.30, cycled west to Hanlan then back to Ward leaving there at 1.15.
The day started with a Mink at central dock after that I found migrants in parches with lots of movement meaning a group would be present for 5 minuytes then move on and nothing happened for twenty minutes or so until another was located.
Highlights were...
3 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (2 at the lighthouse and one nearer ward)
Chimney Swift flocks of 8 and 5
5 northern Flickers
1 northern Harrier female type through Snug Is at around 11.45
At least 30 Empids of which i identified I Least. 10 Alder/Willow and 2 yellow-bellied.
I Great Crested Flycatcher (possibly 2) at the Light House
I Eastern Wood Pewee at ward 4th st.
at least 8 Magnoila Warblers
! Mourning Warbler near the baseball field
1Yellowthroat
1Northern Waterthrush near the Environmental Centre
1 Blackburnian warbler by the Light house
30 swallows I didn't bother identifying to species as I was watching the Mourning Warbler at the time
8 Cedar Waxwings
! american Robin
5 Grey Catbirds
1 blue-grey gnatvcatcher at the light house
At least 5 Warbling Vireos
2 red-eyed vireos
In addition there was
a flock of about 200 Ring billed gulls at Centre Beach
huge gatherings of D-Cr Cormorants off the South west coast (i estimated 700)
287 Canada geese off Ward Ferry dock
and i female type (or eclipse) Green winged Teal near the carousel cafe although this bird was very confiding and I wasn't sure it was wild.
