Title: Kestrel gathering grasses

Saw a kestrel today swooping down to a field and then flying up to a fence post with long dry grass in its claws. I understand they nest in cavities but I guess they also line them? That said, isn't nesting season over?

I suspect it was trying to grab an insect or rodent, but came up with nothing but grass.
