A pleasant surprise at the Baselands yesterday of a half dozen bluebirds. They were showing their lovely colours against the clear sky. There were birds everywhere - thanks to the rain on Sunday - although not a great variety. Dozens of thrushes, kinglets (both kinds), blue-jays and yellow-rumps. Fire ants were not biting - overall a lovely day.
