Title: Lake Wabukayne - one of my best walks here ever!
Post by: Bird Brain on October 27, 2013, 12:50:38 PM
Hi everyone.  This morning between 8:30-10am, I was walking at Lake Wabukayne and sighted the following:

Belted Kingfisher x 2 - I was thrilled as I usually just sight one male at this location - once many years ago, sighted one female.  They were flying around very quickly and whirring up a storm - couldn't get a good enough look to identify gender.  If you stand on the dock at the SW corner of the lake, you'll have a great chance of seeing and hearing them!   8)

Bufflehead x 1 (male)

Cardinals - lots of males and females

Mallards - lots of males and females swimming around, heads bobbing, females making a racket, chasing and biting the males tails!    Perhaps some sort of mating ritual.

Mockingbird x 1 - at East end of lake above the dam area.  I was feeding shelled peanuts to the Cardinals and he made an appearance.

Other:  on North side of the lake, could see some Huge hornet nests.  Ugh!

Walking North through Plowmans Park, sighted the following:

Cardinals - lots of males and females

Juncos - dozens of males and females

Red-breasted Nuthatches - lots

Robins - lots

Other:  very cute and noisy Red Squirrel

West end of Lake Aquitaine:

Blue Jays x 3

Canada Geese - lots

Cardinals - lots of males and females

Chickadees - lots

Coopers Hawk x 1 - flew across the front of my face!

Crows x 3

gulls - lots

House Sparrows - dozens

Juncos - a few

Mallards - dozens

Mourning Doves x 6

Robins - lots
