I got 3 Hawks hitting the yard the past few weeks. Lil Sharpie is the frequenter. A Coopers has been hitting the Mourning Doves. And momma Red-tail who nests in the area has been going after the Squirrels. The Coop and RTH come in on average once a week. I watched the Coopers attack the Sharpie one morning, which was something to see and hear.
This is one huge Red-tail!

Leftovers. I hope it was quick for the Squirrel.

Of the 3 birds, I still love the Sharpie. She's quite personable and isn't bothered by my presence out back. The other two jet pretty quick.

Majorly cool!
I wonder if the owls pop by at night for a quick snack. :)

Yet to see one here but have seen Great Horned and Screech not much more than a stone throw away. And I found a dead Saw-whet last winter.
I figure the Skunks would draw the Great Horn one day, er, night I mean. Lots of conifers around here to hide out in.

Perhaps it's just as well the GHs haven't got your skunk. I read a horrifying article once about a skunk spraying right beside an a/c unit. I think you can imagine.....
With all the seed remnants, there may very well be a screech checking out the mice quietly at night. That's cool to imagine!

We like our Skunks! So ya, GHOW can stay away. :)
Screech would be cool. I put up a nest box at the back suitable for them, Kestrels, Great Crested Flycatchers as examples. All nest in the area so ya never know.
I go out there every night to look and listen, hence why I see all the night mammals I posted in the wildlife photo section. Its a different world out there at night.
