I saw 3 Black Crowned Night Herons resting in a tree at Marie Curtis Park East today.

There are now 6 Black Crowned Night Herons resting in the same tree at Marie Curtis Park East.

I am surprised they are still here - is that normal? I saw them through the summer and fall but didn't realize that they were still here. There is also a pair of hooded mergansers in Marie Curtis park now - male and female.

There are usually a few that hang around into winter. They are often juveniles. The two most frequent locations I know are the lower Don and the mouth of Mimico Creek.

I am surprised myself that Black Crowned Night Herons would be sighted this late in this area as well. However, I have seen a Great Blue Heron in this area in the winter. I have also seen a Great Blue Heron in the Etobicoke Creek as well in the winter. It seems some Black Crowned Night Herons and Great Blue Herons stick around during the colder months in this area.
