Title: Some samples from Aruba
Post by: Dinusaur on January 03, 2014, 08:31:12 PM
Here are some samples from my recent tip to Aruba. Besides seeing a lot of North American birds there I also found a few that are very specific to that region.

1. Magnificent Frigatebird

3. Bare-eyed Pigeon - notice the circular patch around the eyes.

4. Tropical Mockingbird - their songs fill the air all day long.

5. Bananaquit - they love sugar. One would often find them at the hotel breakfast table, poking into sugar bags.

7. Blue-tailed Emerald Hummingbird. This was taken with my 50mm lens, I was walking along the boardwalk when it suddenly appeared and sat on this cactus, quite close to where I was.

Nice variety. Your Oystercatchers are American Oystercatchers (Black Oystercatcher is entirely black and only occurs on the Pacific coast).

Oh yes Gary, I had a great time; the best part was listening to bird songs every morning while walking around. The Oystercatcher was on the north-eastern part of the Island which is very rocky with crashing waves.

Thanks
